Why Precious Started What If Unlimited

Through basketball, mentorship, and life skills training, Precious Achiuwa returned to the court where his own story began — and built a programme for the young people still sitting on it.

We empower youth and women through transformational programs in basketball, life skills, education, and mentorship, creating pathways to opportunity and lasting impact.

NBA’s Precious Achiuwa Hosts Sports and Life Skills Camp for Over 1,000 Youth in Nigeria

Every opportunity matters
That belief sits at the heart of What If Unlimited, the nonprofit founded by NBA athlete Precious Achiuwa—and it came to life in a powerful way during this year’s Sports and Life Skills Camp in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Hosted at the same school where Precious first discovered basketball, the four-day camp welcomed over 1,000 young participants, offering far more than athletic training. It delivered a transformative experience rooted in mentorship, personal growth, teamwork, and the belief that every dream deserves a chance.

Returning to Where It All Began

For Precious, returning to the court where his own basketball journey started was more than symbolic, t was deeply personal.
Standing in the same place where he once trained and dreamed, he reflected on the journey that took him from Port Harcourt to the NBA and the responsibility he now feels to create pathways for others.

“I used to be one of those kids sitting on that same court, dreaming of something bigger. Coming back here to give them opportunities I once needed is surreal.”

More Than Basketball

While elite basketball training remained a key component of the camp, the mission extended well beyond the game.
Participants engaged in a series of life skills and social development workshops focused on:
Teamwork & Collaboration
Problem Solving
Leadership Development
Confidence Building
Social Interaction & Communication

Campers were split into teams and challenged with real-life problem-solving exercises, encouraging them to think critically, communicate effectively, and learn the value of collaboration.

According to Precious, these life skills sessions were one of the most impactful parts of the entire program.

“One of the most important things we did this year was our life skills courses. We wanted the kids to leave with more than basketball skills—we wanted them to leave with tools for life.”

A Moment That Left a Lasting Impact

One camper shared a moment that deeply moved Precious during the event:

“A kid came up to me and said, ‘Thank you because I could have been doing something I’m not supposed to be doing, but instead I was here every day at camp.”

A Family Effort

The camp was made even more meaningful through the support of Precious’s family, who played an active role throughout the event.

From coordinating logistics to preparing meals for campers each day, the camp became a true community effort fueled by shared purpose and passion.

“My family was there every day helping make sure everything ran smoothly. We fed the kids twice a day and made sure they felt cared for every step of the way.”

A Growing Global Mission

While Nigeria remains central to the organization’s mission, the impact of What If Unlimited continues to expand globally.

To date, the organization has hosted programs and initiatives in:
Nigeria
Canada
Sweden
United States

And this is only the beginning.
Looking ahead, What If Unlimited plans to expand its impact further through the introduction of an academic scholarship program, reinforcing its commitment to creating opportunities both on and off the court.

Building a Future Without Limits

What If Unlimited exists to show young people that their current circumstances do not define their future.

By combining sports, mentorship, education, and life skills development, the organization is creating a generation empowered to dream bigger, work harder, and pursue their goals without limits.

“We’re just trying to create as many opportunities as possible for people in need. That’s the whole idea of what we do.”
